Make a wooden ring

I like this build, but…it seems very time consuming.  I wonder if it would be easier to start with a blank board, cut the inner circle first, then the outer part on a drillpress.  Then sand. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-Wooden-Rings-With-a-Drill/all/

Simple way to make a router from your dremel

I fell over when I saw this, I have to say, it does work.  The author just tool a plastic jar and cut it to size to use and a makeshift router cover for a generic dremel. http://m.instructables.com/id/DIY-2-Dremel-Router-Attachment/all/

Closed loop control for 3D printing

Or CNC, the author talks about using servo’s/dc motors instead of steppers, and an encoder to tell where you are. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150122-add-a-closed-loop-control-to-your-3d-printer-and-never-worry-about-missed-steps-again.html

Using a Stepper and 3D printer for making a water pump

If you have a 3D printer, an extra stepper (NEMA-17) and some bearing kicking around, you can make this nice http://www.instructables.com/id/NEMA-17-Peristaltic-Pump/

Husband 3D prints wifes brains for easier surgery

Gotta love this article, the husband 3D printed the MRI scans of his wife’s brain to show where cancer was and to find a simpler surgery for her.  What was interesting was the software, invesalius, which is a free download, to convert … Continue reading

Facebook takes after Netflix and Google, Opensources a bunch of tools

Looks like Facebook opensourced a bunch of its AI work.  Netflix and Google have done similar things with mixed results.  I’ll have to take a look at it in more detail in the future. http://www.wired.com/2015/01/facebook-open-sources-trove-ai-tools/

3D print your spare keys

Nice write-up on how to measure and build a copy of some odd car keys.  Considering dealers now charge 80 and up for some of these keys, this is worth keeping in mind.  Note, if you have an old or … Continue reading
