Build your own Stepper Motor driver

Interesting build, If I total it all up…I could still by a driver cheaper  :).  But could be a good learning experience. http://www.instructables.com/id/CDDVD-Bipolar-Motor-Driver-Wo-Microcontroller/

CNC for Embroidery

Nice build.  I know you can buy small business embroidery machines.  Cheapest I have seen was $500 for one that gets bad reviews.  Average seems to runn 2-3 grand.  Looks like opensource/hobby groups are starting to look at this stuff … Continue reading

Another simple robot arm

This arm is 3D printed instead of cut like the previous.  The directions are not as good as the last one, but its still a nice build and uses an arduino. http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Robotic-Arm-1/

Build a laser burner for $20

Seems simple enough build with everything coming from Radio Shack (which may no longer exist in a few months).  This could be a nice addition to a CNC to burn patterns (note not cut…will need more juice for that).  Me…I … Continue reading

This could be a fun CNC to build with kids

Nice write-up and sourcing of materials to build a rather good looking CNC.  You need a 3D printer to print most of the connectors, and the “sides” will set you back $70 to have cut.  If I total it all … Continue reading

Building a CNC on the cheap

Nice simple (and cheap) build CNC.  Not so sure about how much you can do with it for cutting.  But its a good starting point. http://hackaday.com/2014/11/06/diy-plotter-strives-for-cheapest-cnc-machine-title/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29 http://myhobbyprojects.com/drupal-7.16/?q=plotter The author has some other interesting ideas on the cheap too, like this … Continue reading

Build your own Arduino based, one arm, drawing bot

What is nice about this build, is not only using an arduino, but servos for the motors too.  Its a pretty simple build and could easily be done with kids.  I wish the write-up was a bit better thought. http://www.instructables.com/id/Drawing-Robot/

A simple (and cheap) arduino based mini CNC

Nice simple CNC build from CDROM drives.  Its not the prettiest, but the write up is good and it runs.  I like one of the comments that references a cheap bit holder (collet) here.  Would I build one of these? … Continue reading

Have a CNC, make your own barstools

I love these stools…if I only have an CNC big enough to make them with. http://www.instructables.com/id/CNC-Router-Bar-Stool/

Some new write-ups on building an arcade cabinet with RPi’s

Too good write-ups on how to build an arcade cabinet with an RPi as a controller.  One is more countertop oriented and involves lots of cutting of wood.  The second is a mini desktop one that you 3D print out … Continue reading
