A CNC Sketchbot

Pretty cool project, the author figured out if you slant the board some, you don’t need a complex set of counterweights for the system.  This looks easy enough to build yourself instead of buying it too (and waiting for kickstarter). … Continue reading

Good video and write up on creating a wall plotter

The video was pretty good.  The author does a good job on making ghetto CNC machines. http://www.homofaciens.de/technics-machines-v-plotter_en.htm

Songbird 3D printed pistol

Interesting build.  He is using metal liner (basically a barrel) into the gun.  Still pretty bulky build compared to stuff you can buy. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20161002-metallic-barrel-liner-strengthens-newly-developed-3d-printed-gun-songbird.html

Got one of those cheap laser engravers, make some grids for it.

The author points out that the under $100 laser engravers are great but need a map on them.  He does a good job on makeing a cover and grid pattern you can use with it. http://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Engraver-Bed-Grid/

Simple Arduino Servo Controller.

So if you have 4 servo based CNC and need to add some button/LED to it to control it, this would be a project for you. http://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-3-Button-Controller-for-a-4-Axis-Robot-Arm/

A desktop waterjet CNC

Wazer, a kickstarter project for a desktop based water jet CNC.  This looks pretty cool and impressive cuts it can make.  I like water better than laser (less likely to cause fires, and blindness)….but…at $4-6K its a bit out of … Continue reading

Cool 3D printed sugar…wish they had instructions on building it

Nice build that takes melted sugar and makes pretty glass like structures with it.  Only down side is I can’t find anything on how to build the machine itself. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20160909-hong-kong-guru-creates-3d-printed-sugar-that-looks-like-glass.html

Print out your own, one handed, bottle opener

Pretty clever design.  Not much to it too. Hackaday Prize Entry: A One Hand Bottle Opener

The new x-carve looks pretty interesting

Running around $1500 by time you are done shipping.  It looks pretty impressive for a small CNC.  Seems to run better than my homebuilt one.  Faster too. http://makezine.com/2016/08/31/new-x-carve-cnc-router/

Cool plywood hot wire foam cutter with CNC

Pretty much the Instructable includes the files you need to print the frame out with your CNC.  Its a nice looking build and worth doing. http://www.instructables.com/id/Plywood-Hot-Wire-Foam-Cutter/
