Good guide on power supplies for arduinos

Before you go thru your junk draw and recycle some of the wall warts for an arduino, you may want to read up on this article first. http://www.open-electronics.org/the-power-of-arduino-this-unknown/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+OpenElectronics+%28Open+Electronics%29

Build a Drawbot with 2 old CDROM drives, and RPi, and a Servo

Oh and 2 stepper motor drivers too.  Nice build for a simple drawing robot.  Would be a good kid project too.  Heck you could step this up a bit and have the whole interface run on the RPi http://makezine.com/2015/07/20/build-drawbot-two-cd-drives-raspberry-pi/ detailed … Continue reading

AWS now has a way to testy your Android apps

I have a tough time keeping up with all the changes with the cloud.  This one caught my eye thought, Its Amazon’s AWS Device Farm, that will allow you to test your app on 200 unique devices.  You get the … Continue reading

Now Windows drivers for something, use a Linux VM

I got such a kick out of this (and this could be a good way to re-use old hardware with propietary drivers).  The author couldn’t get a system running of USB/serial in windows.  So he created a tiny linux VM, … Continue reading

Using non-blocking functions instead of blocking with arduino

For most embedded systems developers, this is a given.  Instead of “delay” in arduino its “sleep”.  The author points out instead ot use a loop to do the toggling based on the time instead of blocking til the time runs … Continue reading

Tutorial on making 3D objects from 2D drawings

Some interesting tutorials on how to do this (use a top and side view to convert to a 3D model). http://hackaday.com/2015/08/02/3d-printing-with-2d-inkscape-projections/

3D printing in Dirt

Well more with potting soil than dirt.  The author talks about a project, called printgreen, where you print out a soil/seed mixture for art like designs.  The dirt contains grass seed, so its pretty neat.  The machine looks like a … Continue reading

Another concrete printer, better quality, less details

Another team of students build a conrete printer that looks like better quality than the last one.  But no details on it.  Its based off of a rep-rap and looks like it uses alot of PVC and wood.  The quality … Continue reading

Simple Peristaltic pump

Nice pump that you can 3D print out and use with a stepper for precise control.  All controlled with an arduino http://hackaday.com/2015/07/29/university-peristaltic-pump-has-hacker-heritage/ http://blogs.rsc.org/chipsandtips/2015/06/26/diy-peristaltic-pump/

Wow, this is a cheap CNC build

The author got everything from a hardware store to do the build…well almost everything.   I found it interesting he uses DC geared motors instead of steppers (cheaper solution). http://hackaday.com/2015/07/22/hardware-store-cnc-machine-is-remarkably-precise/
