TI gives out RTOS…but you can’t use it
TI is letting you use their RTOS and develop code on it, but if you put it into anything (like a product), well you better pay up. So, with all the opensource RTOS and Linux out there, why bother? http://dangerousprototypes.com/2013/01/09/ti-launches-a-free-real-time-operating-system-for-microcontrollers/

WebCam over 3G with Raspberry Pi
Nice article on building a webcam with pan/tilt and a Raspberry Pi all managed over 3G network. It lacks a bit on the tech (how he did it), but interesting all the same. It also has a bunch of other … Continue reading

If you bought a CD from Amazon, you can get the MP3 free
If you bought any CD’s from Amazon between now and 1998, you can get the MP3 from them free. This is nice since its a pain to rip and put into the collection by hand. http://www.howtogeek.com/133807/amazon-rolls-out-autorip-free-mp3s-of-all-your-purchased-music/

Some free (ish) ways to send files to folks
Nice article that talks about possible ways to share large files with folks via email. Most of the items have a free and a paid for version, where the free version is limited (filesize, number of times, etc etc). My … Continue reading

Xerox/IEEE donate 35K for Lego /Robotics
Nice gessture, not sure where IEEE got the cash since they are always crying poor to their members. http://www.kyforward.com/our-schools/2013/01/14/xerox-ieee-lexington-donate-35000-for-robotics-kits-for-fcps-elementary-students/

Filabot sounds like its finally shipping
I think the kickstarter project was …gee a year ago…? Anyways its finally going out. It will be interesting to see how much the non-kickstarter version will cost. And how well this will work. http://techcrunch.com/2013/01/13/the-upcycling-filabot-turns-regular-plastic-scrap-into-3d-printer-filament/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Techcrunch+%28TechCrunch%29

Display tells you what com port you are using
If this was a 10-20 dollar item, I would buy it. Doing tinkering with serial ports to USB is a pain. And then trying to figure out which com port you are on…ugh. No kit for this solution, but the … Continue reading
Xerox CEO to receive an Award for Graphics/Printing
I was a bit surprised Xerox got a prize in the “technology” aspect of their business since the concentration now is service oriented. But I was more surprised by the cost to attend the event. $750 PER PLATE! http://whattheythink.com/news/61791-nyu-prism-luncheon-honor-xerox-chairman-ceo-ursula-burns/

Xerox CFO leaves to go to Apple
Lots of articles out about this move (and the good for Apple). Not too much about how it affects Xerox. The guy wasn’t around long either (1-2 years?). Wonder why the move. In other words, was he looking for another … Continue reading
