Article on FindChips

Nice article on Findchips.com.  I haven’t used the site myself in years (since I only buy in small numbers and usually via ebay).  But if you know the chip(s) you need, and in lots of 100, this is good site … Continue reading

Winter Project: Solar heater for the pool

I have seen a couple write-ups similar to this one.  Basically you get $50 worth of material (tie wraps, irritation hose, + couple 2x4s), and make a solar heater from it.  This one is a little different where the author … Continue reading

SARAH will help tell you what the Government has on you

Apparently its a website that will auto-generate requests for information from all the 22(ish) agencies out there on you.  It sounds interesting and worth trying. http://www.hicham.io/foia/index.html Me?  I’m going to wait a few weeks.  I have a feeling they are … Continue reading

Nice write-up on the different 3D printer controller boards

Decent write-up on all the different…well not all but some of the bigger ones…3D printer controller boards out there.  I don’t think the article mentioned that some of those same boards are used in CNC (opensource) controllers too. http://hackaday.com/2013/09/06/3d-printering-electronics-boards/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

OpenID going to shutdown in 2/2014

Its ironic that the reason its shutting down is because the standards OpenID introduced are used by google/facebook/etc, so folks use those sites instead of OpenID’s directly.  Kindof a mixed blessing. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/09/05/myopenid_closes_for_good_2014/

NSA backdoored and stole encryption keys

Newest stuff from Snowden, the NSA was involved in encryption standards and steered standards groups into making encryption standards they (the NSA) had a backdoor from.  Gee, and this is a surprise since NIST (which is tied to the NSA) … Continue reading

Xerox gets data processing/immigration paperwork deal with US

A nice $16 million to digitize immigration records for the USA.  Since this is dataprocessing (going to hire 50 folks to do the work) at lets say $15 an hour.  And it should take only a year to do…It should … Continue reading

A digispark killer, the “trinket”

Adafruit has a new arduino tiny out called the trinket.  Its a bit bigger than the digispark, but has alot more going for it (can do 3.3 volts for example).  And about the same price ($8). http://hackaday.com/2013/09/05/a-really-really-tiny-microcontroller-board/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

Another cool Infinity Mirror

This one is controlled by an arduino.  I like the round one better than the typical rectangle ones I see. http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-controlled-RGB-LED-Infinity-Mirror/
