Clever Robot arm for drawing what it sees

May replace a streetcorner artist near you.  Neat robot that draws a picture it takes of you on paper.  It has a 3D based arm that is neat to watch, my 2 cents, I would have done more of a … Continue reading

Cool 3D printed eggbot design

Its got a bit of a ways to go, but this is much more promising that some of the other spherebot/eggbot designs I have seen that involve printing out the parts on a 3D printer.  Since its all one part, … Continue reading

A simple belt tensioner

This was worth checking out, the author just took a clothes pin and pulled out the spring part and is using that to tighten a belt.  This is important with CNC/3D systems and robots (so the belt doesn’t skip). http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:298142

Make 3D printed Bearing housing

Not a bad idea for custom bearing housing.  If you have your own 3D printer. http://www.instructables.com/id/Making-a-Bearing-Housing-with-3D-Printer-I-made-it/

Videos of a bunch of CNC’s made from floppy drives

Well they are steppers typically found in floppy drives.  This is fun to watch.  Especially the 2nd video that is crazy fast. http://hackedgadgets.com/2014/01/07/cnc-macnine-built-using-floppy-drives/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HackedGadgets+%28Hacked+Gadgets%29#section7

Interesting DLP printer to come to kickstarter

This looks like an interesting printer, DLP based (lasers, resin).  Not idea on cost yet. http://3dprintingindustry.com/2014/04/08/3d-printer-m-one-makex/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=3d-printer-m-one-makex

Interesting Printer concept

The author built a printer that basically punches holes with a needle.  He did a picture with it (dot matrix like).  But this could be an alternative braille printer.  Or perhaps a future opensource sewing machine? http://theelectricsquid.com/blog/2013/12/16/wkp-weird-kind-of-printer

Another possible cheap 3D printer on kickstarter?

The Mamba3D printer sounds like its going to be another cheap, good quality 3D printer.  But…not word on price yet.  So don’t hold your breath. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20140325-open-source-mamba3d-printer-set-to-launch-via-kickstarter.html

Great, now 3D printed skimmers

Well not too surprising and its been done already.  But this time the folks are advertising it.  I love the “prevention” video at the bottom of the article. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20140322-gang-plans-mass-producing-atm-skimmers-via-3d-printing.html

Nice intro to CNC

Mostly the article covers woodworking CNC’s, but its still a good intro article for those not familiar with the basics.  I like the recommended bits, Freud 77-202 or 77-204, the author uses, if you have money for them. http://makezine.com/magazine/cnc-routing-basics-toolpaths-and-feeds-n-speeds/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=%24%7Bfeed%7D&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+%24%7Bmakezineonline%7D+%28%24%7BMAKE%7D%29&utm_content=%24%7BGoogleReader%7D
