Build a 3D print monitor

Nice design that looks like the old mac classics.  Uses a RPi under the hood for control/monitoring. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150105-build-your-own-raspberry-pi-mini-3d-printing-monitor.html

Nice write-up on building a cart for a CNC

OK if you have a full sized shopbot, this is a cart you need to build.  If you don’t (like me), you can only dream.  The whole thing, with exception of bolts, is made from 1/2 plywood and looks really … Continue reading

Custom Stitch with an arduino

Nice build where the author uses an arduino and a servo to control where the head for an old sewing machine is positioned to get different types of stitches.  Now if it only moved the cloth too. http://hackaday.com/2015/01/07/arduino-controlled-sewing-machine-increases-stitch-options/ http://www.upcraft.it/archives/689

Interesting drawing Robot, Makelangelo (Drawbot)

I stumbled on this looking for something else.  Its an interesting design, and doesn’t look too hard to make.  Just wish the design was a bit more “open”. https://www.marginallyclever.com/blog/drawbot/ https://www.marginallyclever.com/shop/drawing-robots/ https://github.com/MarginallyClever/Makelangelo   Update: I might have found an opensource one…stay … Continue reading

A $150? CNC

Neat hanging clay 3D printer

Reminds me of the cement printer.  The authors did a good job making a portable printer for clay.  Could be scaled up too. http://www.instructables.com/id/Sky-Printer-Prototyping-An-Adaptable-Large-Scale-3/

Need a design for CNC hold-down clamps

This author already has ones you can download, import into Easel, and rip out on your CNC. One commentor asked why not use a tablesaw and just make them.  Well you need to cut it, then make the slots with … Continue reading

Backpack CNC for making your own Mark

I got a kick out of this CNC, its a backpack where the author can take it along somewhere to stencil in something out in the world.  What ever happened to just using a knife or spraypaint to tag … Continue reading

Simple C program to make boxes for CNC

When I first saw this I was WTF, C… But I took a closer look and its pretty clever, looks like it can only be used with laser cutters for now, but maybe adaptable to drill based. http://hackaday.com/2014/12/04/generating-laser-cut-boxes-in-c/ http://hamsterworks.co.nz/mediawiki/index.php/Svg_box

Cutting glass with a CNC

I never thought about using a CNC to cut glass.  Its a cool idea but I would have to include water in with my CNC to help cool and keep the particles down…Not so sure about how much of a … Continue reading
