I so want one of these CNC’s

I remember when the lego version came out.  I so want one of these, but….hard to get the justification for $200. http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/10/pancake-bot/?ncid=rss

Make a handle to turn your drillpress…well by hand

Nice build where the author added a hand crank to the top of his drillpress to turn it by hand.  Why?  Well to thread taps into objects (hard to do with the press on).  Why not just do it with … Continue reading

Is Astroprint better than Octoprint?

Both items are software packages ment to run on a small computer (Raspberry Pi for example) that will allow you to control and send 3D print jobs to be processed.  Astroprint is a fork off of Octoprint from what I … Continue reading

Simple Large CNC for Laser Engraving

Another nice CNC build that makes for a large cover area and somewhat portable for engraving.  I haven’t ventured into lasers yet, mostly out of safety concerns.  But this looks like a nice build and cheap to make. http://www.instructables.com/id/3W-4×4-Arduino-Laser-CutterEngraver/

A cheap ($100) CNC/3D printer

I had to post this one.  The author basically takes parts from a printer carriage and other stuff and slaps a 3D printer together.  All for around $100.  I like the Arduino and RAMPS 1.4 setup.  Haven’t tried it myself … Continue reading

Piccolo, the tiny CNC

Cute little CNC that covers a very small area.  The design is free but….for the cost.  I think around $100 in material and cuts, I would build something bigger.  Thought I have heard it down to $70…. http://www.piccolo.cc/

Nice write-up on OctoPrint

I stumbled on this nice write-up on OctoPrint, a service you can run on a system like an RPi to handle g-code for a 3D Printer.  There is some chatter on the net using OctoPrint with a CNC (which would … Continue reading

A cardboard CNC?

Those folks at MIT have some creative stuff they build.  This time its a CNC build with a cardboard frame.  Its only for the Z & Y axis, I think.    Neat build…not so sure how stable it is.  This could … Continue reading

Nice CNC build for bigger stuff

I like this build, and that the author uses OpenRail with V-bar, or T-bar.  Its pretty straight forward build and incorporates some bits of Shapeoko too.  My 2 cents….not sure if I would build this, its running the author around … Continue reading

Halftone CNC

I have seen this in the past, where you use a CNC and a v-carve like bit to make halftone cutouts.  But this time it looks like the author of drillpic did some major overhauls and improved the design alot.  … Continue reading
