Get rid of telemarketers witha banana…phone

Actually a pretty good idea.  The author talks about having the caller hear a series of numbers and having to punch those numbers in.  Since most telemarketer systems are robot based.  This could knock the robots out.  Till the robots … Continue reading

Portable Powered Motion Sensor

So why would you want this.  Think haloween props and other holidays where you want something to turn on to greet guests. http://www.instructables.com/id/MOTION-SENSOR-Good-to-GoQuick-Easy/

How to overclock a RPi

Nice write-up on how to overclock a Raspberry PI.  Why…well it is pretty powerful, but compared to todays systems (like an atom) its a little slow.   But keep in mind with overclocking you can wear it down faster and … Continue reading

FBI and backdoors

Nice article about how the FBI is big on backdoors in applications instead of hacking systems to get what they need.  Article points out that these doors can be used by others too… http://www.wired.com/opinion/2013/01/wiretap-backdoors/

Virgin Mobile Throttling its data plan

Looks like yet another carrier is pulling the “TimeWarner” affect by throttling how fast you can go over the cell lines for data.  Even if you have unlimited data.  This is a disturbing trend. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/03/05/virgin_choking/

Use a RPi as a low powered NAS

Great idea, but…I would rather use a pogoplug and hack that instead of putting all the effort into a RPi.  Not to mention Pogoplugs come with a power supply, case, and cost only 20-30 dollars. http://www.howtogeek.com/139433/how-to-turn-a-raspberry-pi-into-a-low-power-network-storage-device/

Looks like it could be a bad day in security ….

And in the government or a government contractor.  From the sounds of this article, those folks maybe some of the first out the door for the budget cuts. http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130304/DEFREG02/303040015/Cybersecurity-Bubble-Bursting-U-S-Contractors
