Add a cheap laser to a CNC/3D printer

Interesting article that talks about adding a laser to your CNC/3D printer…but they don’t mention the dangers with it. http://3dprintingindustry.com/news/low-budget-laser-can-unleash-3d-printer-81882/

iBoardBot released to opensource

It was an interesting kickstarter project from…I think a year ago.  They opened up the design (you can buy the kit for $200).  Its basically a whiteboard plotter.  The parts are small, but complicated, so it could be a challenge … Continue reading

Looks like the openknit project is moving along

Now called Kinterate, I can see making my own socks in the future 🙂 http://www.3ders.org/articles/20160608-make-your-own-clothes-with-kniterate-the-3d-printer-for-knitwear.html

Interesting project, a closed loop control for stepper motors

Looks like the board can be mounted right on the motor.  This is nice so it the stepper skips a step, gets jammed, etc etc, you get built in autocorrection.  Its on github right now. Mechaduino- Closed Loop Stepper Servos … Continue reading

CNC your molds for pewter

Nice build, the author milled the molds on MFD board on a small CNC, then clamped them together and poured in the pewter (low melting point). http://makezine.com/2016/06/03/cnc-milling-students-create-pewter-casting/

An unusual Mini CNC

This one is only part CDROM drive based, another part from a photo printer.  Its an interesting build for a plotter.  I still have not built one of these yet, but I have the materials together for it.  Just haven’t … Continue reading

3D print your own smartphone robot

Nice robot build.  Downside, I think it would take my printer a week to print it all out. http://www.instructables.com/id/DriveMyPhone-Smartphone-Controlled-Hybrid-Vehicle/

Drawbot + laser Etcher….errr…I see some holes in the walls

The authors took a wall drawbot concept and added a laser etcher to it.  Neat…one way to put art on your wall. http://makezine.com/2016/05/04/makers-build-laser-etcher-for-under-200/

Nice cheap build (but time consuming) CNC

This is a nice build for a CNC, pretty slick looking too and very detailed.  Only down side is I think more details on ways to “build” the cut outs would be nice.  And mounts for the rails.  You have … Continue reading
