Make a laser cut sphere bot (eggbot)

I looked a printing out the parts for an eggbot, and …well its alot of plastic for something that is “flat”.  The author here has a laser cut set of plans that looks like it would be easy to convert … Continue reading

Convert your 3D printer to be portable

Nice build where the author converts his little printer to run off a battery.  Down side…well the driver (typically a computer) will need a battery too and STAY ON while the print is working.  Which could be hours.  I also … Continue reading

Cool laser cut and 3D printer based business cards

A bit bulky, but nice looking.  One thing to add…an LED. http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Business-Cards/

Add this to the list of stuff I want to print out

I watched the video on this one, its pretty neat, the cylinder seems to fly thru the air better than a football.  And yes, this is on my list to print. http://3dprint.com/73490/vortex-tubular-wing-model/

Use an encoder to tell if you have a print jam

Gotta say this is a good idea, the author uses an ATiny and a wheel to tell if the filament is mov ing or not, to detect jams in the print head. http://hackaday.com/2015/06/16/prevent-failed-prints-with-a-filament-speed-sensor/

Author uses one homemade CNC to make a better one

Its an impressive build, but….I can’t find the plans/design drawings on the thread the author posted this under. http://hackaday.com/2015/06/07/diy-mdf-cnc-machine-is-small-and-solid/

Build a mini 3D printer with old CDROM drives

OK with CDROM drives controlled by steppers (harder to find that you think) and a floppy drive.  This is a nice build, but…a bit costly in other parts.  Figure $30 for arduino and stepper controller, Another $20 for the body.    … Continue reading

Interesting hacks for Printrbot hot end to make it easier to fix

The author went thru some interesting fixes for his hotend for a printrbot to make it easier.  The comments section mentions why not switch out for an E3D (knockoff version) head instead for around $20. http://hackaday.com/2015/06/02/cheap-hot-end-modification-allows-easy-future-repairs/

Cool 3D Printed controlled syring

The authors goal was to build a cheap syringe for medical devices.  But I could see this in a cake CNC or robotics too. http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Syringe-Pump-Rack/

Another simple rock tumbler, but this time with 3D printed parts

Nice rock tumbler build with some bearings, threaded rod, and 3D printed parts. http://www.instructables.com/id/Affordable-Rock-Tumbler/
