Simple air flow sensor

Interesting build for an air sensor.  The author built it from scrapes and it seems to work OK.  Not so sure how reliable for long term solution or outdoor one it would be. http://www.instructables.com/id/low-cost-air-flow-sensor/

Another simple wind generator using parts from a drill

I like this since it not only finds a use for an old cordless drill.  It allows for a simplier way to maintain the system.  Thought making the blades could be a bit of a challenge from PVC pipe. http://www.instructables.com/id/Small-Wind-Powered-Generator/

Make an Anemometer

Nice write-up on making an anemometer.  I was a little concerned on using the cheap plastic that the sun would destroy it.  But the author gave it a coat of paint that seems to cure the problem. http://www.instructables.com/id/Data-Logging-Anemometer/

Turn a PC fan into a wind turbine

Good write-up that points out one of the issues with doing this with a PC fan, is the IC (integrated circuit) built into most of these fans will prevent good output from the motor.  I may have to try this … Continue reading

Use a pill bottle to make your motor water resistant

Simple idea.  Could be useful for homemade or teaching wind power where the kids print the motor home. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Water-resistant-Motor-Housing/?ALLSTEPS

Make a simple windpower system with soda bottles

Interesting build where the author uses the tops of soda bottles (with caps) to make a simple windpower system.  My 2 cents, this maybe a better solution to measure wind that get power from it.  Either way it could be … Continue reading

A turbine less wind turbine?

Haven’t been hearing allot about wind power lately.  This is an interesting idea where it somehow generates electricity by dropping water droplets moving in the wind.   It sounds…complicated.  So I don’t see a big demand for it.  But you never know. … Continue reading
