I got curious after talking to a few local engineers about small companies in Rochester NY. So I started looking around. There are several in the area that caught my attention as interesting to look at. Most where basically “hired guns” that had a tough time finding work, so became a “founder” or co-founder of a consultant agency (team of 1-5).
These ones seem a bit more real:
CloudCheckr http://cloudcheckr.com, Seems to provide tools to check your AWS cloud setup and figure out where you can save money. Good idea since you start spinning up alot of big instances, costs can start going up fast.
Tenrehte, http://www.tenrehte.com/, as far as I can tell, they basically make a power supply monitor for things you plug into it. Kindof like a fancy Belkin WeMo. Not sure how long these guys will survive sinde the site is kindof iffy to get around (lots of broken links).
CohesiveSelf, http://www.cohesiveself.com/, looks like a headshrinker app for iOS only. basically it does mood tracking and helps you with more positive outlook. I think. It looks neat, little worried about privacy with it and its HUGE in size for an app (over 40 MB…). Since its $5 I didn’t try it out.
Wheelie, https://wheelie.me/, OK its like lyft or Uber but for long distance trips. I can see this being good for college kids that need to get home. Not so sure about long term for this one.
iCardiac, http://www.icardiac.com/, OK I am not so sure these folks are still a “startup”. Basically it sounds like they are a lab for drug companies.
