Homebuild PCB laser cutter

I am actually pretty impressed with the build.  Its a nice looking machine for a DIY. http://hackaday.com/2013/04/03/homebuilt-laser-cutter-ideas/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

Hall affect limit switches

I like this idea, most of the limit switches I use for CNC are mechanical based.  This is a magnetic field based and is contact less.  It doesn’t look like it would cost much to make either.. http://hackaday.com/2013/04/03/hall-effect-limit-switches-for-a-3d-printer/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

Navy going for Star Trek with 3D printers

I got a kick out of this, basically a couple of officers are pushing 3D printing for ships to make parts, drones, etc on the fly.  Good idea, but do they realize how long it can take to “print” something … Continue reading

Mugplotter, nice take over the eggbot

Very nice build.  Wish I had a laser cutter to make this.  I think I would still do eggs, and christmas balls too.. http://www.instructables.com/id/Mug-Plotter/

A ping-pong printer

Must be getting close to easter, someone adapted the eggbot (again) but this time for ping-pong balls. http://hackaday.com/2013/03/24/cnc-ping-pong-printer-uses-simple-construction/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

So, how do you make an eggbot

OK I got thinking about this, and found a nice little write-up on how to build an eggbot (instead of buying one).  It looks like this one was built mostly with scraps.  I’ll have to look at this one some … Continue reading

And Eggbot

Cool eggbot.  Its a little overkill on the controller bit (do you really need over $100 in arduino controllers) but I like the simple hardware design.  Beats buying an eggbot for $250 – $350. http://blog.makezine.com/2013/03/28/random-pattern-egg-drawbot/

RobotShop announces 3D printing of parts

Have some custom robot parts you want built.  Now you can send them to RobotShop and they will “print” them out for you.  Interesting twist to a 3D print shop. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20130328-robotshop-announces-3d-printing-service-for-robotic-parts.html

3 more years and I can get a commercial 3D printer…

This article is predicting that in 2016 we can get a high end 3D printer for $2000.  I am already drooling.  This would mean that low end should be what…$100?  I could print out my own outfits ….. http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/29/enterprise-class-3d-printers-to-drop-under-2000-by-2016-says-report/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Techcrunch+%28TechCrunch%29

$500 for a pretty sturdy looking 3D printer

Check out this kickstarter project.  It looks like a Makerbot but with more table space and open air.  The kit is going for $500 and $900 for an assembled version. I recommend getting an assembled one.  I really wish I … Continue reading
