Xerox patch is on it way, a lot of fuss over nothing

Well if you haven’t heard, a researcher (see monday’s articles) found that Xerox machines that scan with jpeg set will loose or change numbers.  From the sounds of it its a problem with the JBIG compression methods (so you scan with something else you will be OK).  Anyways, according to the article this will be patched soon.  I wonder if this is a problem with jpeg/jbig, will other scanners (Canon/HP/etc) have this problem?
