Neat mini CNC from 3D printed parts and CDROM motors

Nice build where the author uses the steppers from CDROM controllers to build a mini CNC from parts printed from a 3D printer.  Me…I think I would just reuse the existing carriages for the CDROM drives.  This does look much … Continue reading

Make your own thickness sander

Cool, the author built his own thickness sander instead of buying one (they are very expensive).  But it looks like this is a very time consuming process to build.  I wonder if there is a way to simplify it by … Continue reading

Opensource app to find spy cell towers

Interesting project that can tell if your phone is connected to a spy cell tower (or fake tower).  It looks like its in “alpha” development state right now.  But who knows what it will look like 6 months from now. … Continue reading

Cool looking tube knitting machine

This is a neat looking knitting machine, everything was 3D printed out and is opensource.  Definitely something worth to keep an eye on.  Looks like the most expensive thing is the 100 needles you need to buy for it. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150112-the-open-source-knitic-knitting-machine–makerbeam-arduino-and-3d-printing.html

A new beach drawing robot

Pretty neat robot that draws in the sand with a set of rake like things on the back. http://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/robotics-hardware/disney-research-beachbot?utm_source=feedburner-robotics&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IeeeSpectrumRobotics+%28IEEE+Spectrum%3A+Robotics%29

Build a 3D print monitor

Nice design that looks like the old mac classics.  Uses a RPi under the hood for control/monitoring. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150105-build-your-own-raspberry-pi-mini-3d-printing-monitor.html

Build an Inkle Loom

I had never heard of one of these before, but I stumbled on the project and thought this is pretty cool.  At first it seemed like alot of work to build it, but after seeing how much one of these … Continue reading

Check out this crazy jig to use a tablesaw to make a bowl

You won’t find me making this.  But its one heck of an interesting way to make a bowl.  Me…I’ll just buy one at the dollar store.  This is too much work and looks dangerous to me. http://makezine.com/2015/01/08/how-to-turn-a-bowl-with-a-table-saw/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=%24%7Bfeed%7D&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+%24%7Bmakezineonline%7D+%28%24%7BMAKE%7D%29&utm_content=%24%7BGoogleReader%7D

Looks like CISPA (the spy agency dream law) is back

I have to say I am amazed this bill is making a comeback.  But coming from a rep in Maryland…geee guess I should not be too surprised. http://gizmodo.com/cispa-is-being-revived-1678464905
