The author doesn’t say in the write-up, but it looks like 3-4 sheets of particle board are used. The sheets typically are $10. Its a nice build but like the author said, its not a long term bench as this type of “wood” will fail over time. But for the price, if you need to build some cheap benches to last a couple of years…
