You’ve been TUPE-ed

I brought this up since Xerox sold off a bunch of its engineering department a few years back.  I found it interesting how Fed Laws can prevent your new “boss” from dropping your wages as their new employee. http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2013/11/19/tupe_what_to_expect_if_you_are_exiting/

How to build a quick, easy and cheap loudspeakerbox with drainpipe material

I like this idea, its simple, cheap, and works.  Best part is you can use a standard PC speaker. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-quick-easy-and-cheap-loudspeakerbox/

Make a SUPER Joule Thief Light!

I have to say this is a pretty impressive circuit setup for a Joule Thief.  I may have to try this out myself.  Most of the ones I build are pretty simple and use shielded wire. http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-SUPER-Joule-Thief-Light/

How to build a bomb with materials in the airport

Sigh, just another reason why normal people have to be bothered by TSA (and taxpayers too).  This article points out that the determined person will get past all this security (and costs ).  So perhaps we should spend the money … Continue reading

A mini planer, saw, sander and lathe

I got a kick out of this, the author made all of the above with a bunch of DC motors, and an altoids case.  Not so sure how well they work.  Wish the pictures where better too. http://www.instructables.com/id/Multitool-planer-Tablesaw-Disc-Sander-and-A-Lat/?ALLSTEPS

Simple Catapult

Funny and simple catapult with a couple of 2x4s, a hing, and some bungy cords.  The range sucks with it, but for kids, this could be perfect. http://www.instructables.com/id/Quick-and-Easy-Wooden-Catapult/

Simple(ish) design to add lights to your bike wheels

Nice press to make your own Briquettes

Nice press to make briguettes for a rocket stove (using sawdust and paper).  Me, you can buy similar stuff and unless you have a good source for sawdust, I can’t imagine this would be worth it. http://hackaday.com/2013/03/13/briquette-press-for-rocket-stove-fuel/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29

A look at hashcat

Nice write-up on hashcat, a password hash cracker.  I haven’t used this one myself, but have heard about it.  I did not know it supported multi-threaded environments thought. http://www.darknet.org.uk/2013/11/hashcat-multi-threaded-password-hash-cracking-tool/
