Interesting stuff to secure things in android

Most of the stuff I know already in this article.  But the bit about “pinning” screens in Android 5.x and up, I didn’t. http://www.computerworld.com/article/3029725/android/7-android-tools-that-can-help-your-personal-security.html?token=%23tk.CTWNLE_nlt_computerworld_daily_shark_2016-02-12&idg_eid=ae6ec1ab9f042d4f0493c0e51dc0924e&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Computerworld%20Daily%20Shark%202016-02-12&utm_term=computerworld_daily_shark#tk.cw_nlt_computerworld_daily_shark_2016-02-12

OK so you can open most home safes with a magnet

Given its a big magnet, its still a magnet.  I was amazed to watch this video where the author just uses the magnet to pull a solenoid back to open the safe. http://sploid.gizmodo.com/watch-a-magnet-inside-a-sock-break-open-a-hotel-safe-in-1757450162

Heck with card skimmers, just tap the network

OK I am a little concerned here.  First they criminals are using basically a router box to sniff the traffic off the ATM.  But…shouldn’t that traffic be encrypted and verified (signed) so the data is useless.  I have a feeling … Continue reading

Need to make a key from the lock? Theres an App to help you out

Keysforge, appartently it will take a picture of the front of the lock and make a blank of the key for you (you then need to cut it down to size).  Pretty neat. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/01/18/keysforge_will_give_you_printable_key_blueprints_using_a_photo_of_a_lock/ https://keysforge.com/

Build a man-in-the-middle device for USB

Interesting build.  The author basically put a simple system together to do a man-in-middle attack on a USB system to figure out how the device works. USB Proxy Rats Out Your Devices’ Secrets

Security design for IoT (aka embedded systems)

I always get a kick out of the IoT term.  Basically its embedded systems.  Anyways…interesting article covering a paper written by Prpl on how to secure embedded systems. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/01/07/prpl_secure_iot_guide/

Interesting attack tool, Zarp

New one on me, Zarp seems to be oriented to attacking the local area network (so you are already on the network somehow).    It looks like it builds off existing tools that do this already but has more automation too … Continue reading
